For Beginners Only!
If you are here, I will take a leap, go out on a limb, and assume you actually know how to type a coherent post, along with knowing all your primary school english. If not, you certainly won't be well recieved among your peers. If you have already roleplayed in another site (Chatrooms excluded), then you won't need to read the following.
Creating your character
This is the first step for you in order to experience this forum to it's fullest. You will spend (hopefully) most of your time here using your character to interact with others. Thus, your if your character is screwed up, then your roleplaying experience will be similarily screwy. I would like to stress that creating an all-powerful 'perfect' character is not the way to go. Instead, this will guide you on your way to create a realistic character.
If you take a peek at the 'Character Creation' board, you will see that I already have a pre-set character profile template for you to go on. Please note that you are not to use any other template. Adding in categories via. 'other' is fine by me, however. Now, let us see what we have first, hm?
The first thing I ask you to put in your character sheet is your character name, age, race, alias, and gender. Despite the fact that these may seem to be relatively insignificant categories, having a character named as 'Chuck Norris' or 'Leethaxx0rx' will detract from the experience. Similarily, having an Imperial name for a Khajiit, or an Argonian name for a Dunmer will also be awkward. If your character has an alias, I have also asked you to place it there. If your character does not have one, you're free to leave it blank. If you do, then it would automatically mean that your character has done something to gain that alias. Names don't pop out of nowhere, y'know.
The next thing I do is get you to pick a class & birthsign. You are allowed mostly free reign as to what kind of person you want to be, and what class you pick. I have allowed you to be as creative as you want with your class. You may merely name what you want to be, or be as expansive as you want. 'Adventurer' counts as a character class, along with 'Blacksmith', 'Merchant', and 'Noble'. There is no such thing as picking a 'Default' class. We also have you pick a birthsign here. As of yet, I can find no use for the birthsign area of the profile, but it's put in there for the pure aspect of completion.
The next thing we ask you to do is to list your abilities, magical prowess, weapons, and armor. Your abilities are anything you can do that are not magical by nature. This consists of being able to jump insanely high without magical aid, superhuman reflexes, and many others. Magical abilities should be self-explanitory, although just putting one word, such as 'elements', does not make the cut. Instead, you must put something like this 'Can control the elements with ease. Is best with descruction magicks.' or 'Has difficulty controlling elements but can do it up to some extent.' The single word 'elements' is far too vague for me to discern any more meaning from it.
Then, we get to your weapons & armor. Arkfeller has left a note saying that if you give your character improbable items or stats, we'll reject it. And she wasn't incorrect. If your character has a full suit of daedric armor, we want an explanation. Similarily, if your character as a sword such as Eltonbrand, we also want a very good reason why you have a unique sword. Under typical circumstances, unique weapons / armor are banned. Standard procedure here - list weapons, describe if neccesary.
And after this, we get to the fun part. Your physical description, which is basically what you look like, your personality, and your biography. Although I have left this part optional, it is suggested that you do this to the best of your ability as it is this area that 'fleshes out' your character, and makes your roleplays a level more entertaining. Even if you've never done this sort of thing before, it should be easy. You are free to leave this area blank, however.
The first thing we do when we reach this 'extra' stage is your physical description. Does he have an eyepatch? Is he obese? Is his nose broken? Does he have blonde hair? These are all questions that may be answered when you fill this area out. You do it just like a normal written description, or you can use dot points to list out features. How you do it is up to you. Note, however, that even though this is an optional area, utterly ridiculous appearances will not be accepted. If you wish, or can't properly explain physical appearances, you may submit a picture in this category. Please note that if it's a picture I recognize it will be rejected.
For personality, it's a similar deal. If your character has skitzophrenia, we would probably want to know about it. If she acts like a he, we'd want to know about it. If he acts like a she, then I think that we'd possible need to know about that. Remember that we keep everything at a strictly PG 15 rating here, though. Also, if your character is a rude, stuck-up b**ch, we'd want to know about that too.
Onto biography. Your character's biography is what has happened in their life. You don't need to write down every itty bitty boring detail. Instead, we want all the important things that have happened in your character's lifespan. Getting married, getting shipped off to a random mage's academy, loosing this eye, participating in a war, are all important events. Brief overview, not 10000 word essay.
We also give you the chance to place any 'extra' information in the others tab. If you have a pet, or any important notes that you didn't place anywhere else in the profile, it belongs here.
Staying in character
Now that you've finished making a character, you're welcome to roleplay in the vast realm of Vvardenfel. However, we wouldn't want you to stray out of character, would we?
